Troy Volleyball Drops Second Straight in Five Sets

TROY, Alabama – For the second consecutive night the Troy volleyball team won the first two sets, but lost the next three, this time falling to Arkansas State, 3-2 (22-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-15, 15-4), at Trojan Arena on Saturday night.

Troy (5-9, 0-2) hit .121 in the match, but that after posting a .227 mark in the first two sets. The loss was the seventh straight for Troy while the win was the seventh straight for Arkansas State (11-1, 2-0). The Red Wolves hit .316 in the match, that after Troy held them to a .195 mark in the first two sets.

Sara Landis and Symone Shaw led the Trojans with 11 kills each, while Landis had just three errors for a team-best .400 attack percentage. Reina Terry recorded a season-high 41 assists.

Defensively, Troy had just 5.0 total team blocks while the Red Wolves recorded 17.0 as a team. Ali Dowdall led the Trojans with 14 digs while Terry was just behind with 13 for her second straight double-double.

Troy broke a 24-24 tie with two straight kills to win the second set, 26-24. It seemed Troy would take control of the match, but Arkansas State started the third set on an 8-1 run before winning 25-12. In that third set, the Red Wolves hit .548 with 17 kills and no errors.

The Red Wolves committed just three errors in the fourth set on their way to a 25-15 win. They then recorded just one error in the fifth set, and after scoring the first 10 points, went on to win it 15-4.

Arkansas State was led by 17 kills from Drew Jones who hit .319 on the night. Markie Shaedig recorded a match-high 22 digs while Mallory Washington had 49 assists.

The Trojans return to the court next weekend when they travel to take on Little Rock and Arkansas State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
