Troy Hosts Sun Belt's Two Hottest Teams

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team opens Sun Belt play with a pair of home matches this weekend at Trojan Arena, hosting Appalachian State on Friday and Arkansas State on Saturday, both at 6 p.m.

Troy (5-7) will be looking to snap a five-match losing streak, but will hope to do so at home where the Trojans are 4-0 this season. Troy most recently lost a four-set match at Mercer on Tuesday.

The Trojans enter the weekend leading the Sun Belt with 2.53 blocks per set as a team. That number has helped Troy hold opponents to a .174 attack percentage, the third best mark in the conference.

Darby Griff leads the Trojans, and ranks second in the Sun Belt, with 1.24 blocks per set. Meanwhile, on the Troy back line, Ali Dowdall ranks fourth in the Sun Belt at 4.91 digs per set.

Offensively, Blair Winston leads the Trojans at 3.19 kills per set, including two 20-kill performances in her last three matches. Griff leads the Trojans with a .300 attack percentage on the season.

Appalachian State (7-4) has won three straight matches, the second longest active winning streak in the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers are coming off of a midweek sweep of Western Carolina. Of Appalachian State's four losses, three have come in five sets to Iowa State, Virginia and Missouri.

Troy is 0-3 all-time against Appalachian State, including a pair of losses last season with the match in Troy going to five sets.

Arkansas State (9-1), who will play at South Alabama on Friday, has the best non-conference record in the Sun Belt and enters with a league-best five-match winning streak. The Red Wolves lone loss of the season came in five sets to Missouri.

Troy is 1-12 all-time against Arkansas State, with the lone win coming at home in 2013. Last season's match at Trojan Arena went to five sets.
