TROY, Alabama – Justin Landry has been named Troy's assistant strength and conditioning coach, director of strength and conditioning Richard Shaughnessy announced on Wednesday. Landry, who will work primarily with basketball and will assist Rafael Horton with football, joins the Troy staff after one year as the men's basketball performance coach at the University of Texas.
Â
"We're very happy to have him with us at Troy," Shaughnessy said. "I'm excited about what he brings to the table, as far as his knowledge of strength and conditioning and basketball. We look for great things from him in the future."
Â
Prior to Texas, Landry spent one year as a graduate assistant coach at Tennessee State University where he oversaw the women's basketball team, while assisting with football, volleyball and softball. While working with the Tigers, Landry also worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Father Ryan High School in Nashville.
Â
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to come to Troy," Landry said. "I can't wait to start helping these student-athletes and this program achieve its goals of winning championships. I have so much appreciation for my time at Texas and working under Todd Wright, who is one of the best strength coaches in college athletics. Working with him and his background was huge for my growth as a coach, and I'm looking forward to continuing my career under coach Cunningham and his staff."
Â
Landry also spent four months at Baylor University as an athletic performance intern where he worked primarily with the men and women's basketball programs, also assisting with Olympic sports.
Â
In 2011, he created his own company, Hollywood Athletics, in which he provided strength and conditioning training services. He has trained multiple women's basketball high school programs, AAU teams, and assisted with basic athletic measurement (BAM) testing and NBDL, NBA and collegiate combines.
Â
Landry has certifications with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a strength and conditioning specialist, the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a performance enhancement specialist as well as USA track & field and weightlifting sport performance coach.
Â
Landry graduated from Cal State East Bay with a bachelor's degree in pre-athletic training, with a minor in recreation in 2012. He completed his master's degree of education in sports science, with a focus is exercise physiology, from Tennessee State University in 2014.
Â
Prior to his involvement with collegiate athletics, Landry was a physical therapy aide at Webster Orthepedics.
Â
Troy men's basketball opens its season with a home exhibition game on November 5. Troy's regular season opener is on the road at South Florida on November 13.
