The Trojan Report: A Monthly Update from the Director of Athletics
Opening Message
All our teams recently took part in the academic-championship portion of our seasons at Troy University. I am proud to report that we had 44 student-athletes walk across the stage to become graduates of Troy University and win the ultimate championship. These student-athletes have represented us well throughout their collegiate careers, and we are thrilled to see what they accomplish next as they embark on their next journey. Additionally, our student-athletes have collectively posted a 3.2 GPA as a department, continuing our upward trajectory in the classroom.
Our outdoor track & field team had a strong showing at the recent Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, as 11 Trojans earned all-conference honors, including five All-Sun Belt First Team selections.
Rachel Whyte broke the school record in the 400m en route to a conference title, and her 52.56 was the fastest in the Sun Belt this season! She was joined by Jasmine Jimenez, Aaliyah Murphy and Haley Wilson on the 4x400m relay team, which captured gold with a time of 3:36.51.
On the men's side, Ethan Forbes earned first-team honors in the 800m with a school-record time of 1:48.88. Our 4x100m relay team, consisting of Michael Eady, Travis Massey, Kasahn Rivers and Tydreke Thomas, earned All-Sun Belt Second Team honors after claiming the silver medal. Additionally, Faith Jones and Shanyah Washington were named All-Sun Belt after recording second-place finishes in the 100m hurdles and 100m, respectively.
Congratulations to all these phenomenal student-athletes, and we look forward to seeing which student-athletes will have a chance to move forward to NCAA Regionals soon!
Baseball landed three on the All-Sun Belt First Team, headlined by Jimmy Janicki, who was named Sun Belt Player of the Year. Janicki was joined on the first team by Aaron Piasecki (outfield) and Drew Nelson (utility). Janicki's selection marked the fourth time a Trojan has been named Sun Belt Player of the Year in baseball, the most in SBC history.
We look forward to seeing these guys in action this upcoming week in Montgomery for the Sun Belt Baseball Tournament at DABOS Park!
Softball had two student-athletes named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in Megan Loftis (outfield) and Ella Cunningham (DP). They were joined by teammates Makaley Boswell (shortstop), Abby Lovell (pitcher), and Mia Tidmore (first base), who were named All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention.
While the season has concluded, we are very excited about the returning talent that Coach Eric Newell and his team will bring back to the softball diamond next season!
Sun Belt Baseball Tournament
A big week is ahead of us as Troy Baseball enters the Sun Belt Baseball Tournament in Montgomery, and our Trojans are squarely in the at-large berth conversation when it comes to NCAA Regionals.
The metrics are there, as we have the No. 2 non-conference strength of schedule and the No. 9 overall strength of schedule, according to today's RPI report. The week sets up well for a great opportunity to prove ourselves to the NCAA Baseball Selection Committee. It all begins on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., when we take on our rivals, South Alabama. What more could you ask for than a chance to play your rivals in the postseason with a chance to survive and advance?
We need all Trojan Nation to flood the River Region and help us paint the town in Cardinal in support of our baseball program. Join us Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for a Fan Social in the Club Car Bar prior to the game. Tickets are available for purchase through the Montgomery Biscuits Box Office or online, BiscuitsBaseball.com
Spotlight Story – Blake Cavill
I can't say I've personally experienced this, but one would have to think that hitting a grand slam is an experience anyone would be proud of. But hitting two grand slams in a single game? That's an unforgettable moment!
Our guy Blake Cavill accomplished that in the final regular-season game at ULM this past Saturday. And to add to his incredible day, he tied a Sun Belt Conference record with nine RBIs.
He started the day with an RBI double in the first inning before adding a grand slam in both the second and third innings. Watch out folks … Blake Cavill and his teammates are on a mission as we head to Montgomery!
Looking Ahead – Remaining Trojan Tour Stops
Trojan Tour has officially started, and we have had great stops thus far in Montgomery (May 15) and Troy (May 18), with remaining stops of the tour including Birmingham, Dothan and Ozark.
Birmingham's event will take place on Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m. at Dread River Distillery with complimentary food and drinks provided for those in attendance. Dothan and Ozark will take place on back-to-back dates in July.
Dothan will take place on Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, while Ozark will take place on Tuesday, July 14, at 11:30 a.m. at Hoppergrass Restaurant. Both of these venues will have opportunities for attendees to purchase food and drinks on their own.
We would love to see you out on the road as part of Trojan Tour 2026! Come out and join us to hear from our great coaches.
Conclusion – Preparations for the Fall
Tuesday marks 109 days until Kickoff in the Wiregrass as your Troy Football team takes on Sam Houston on September 5! We can't wait to have you join us at The Vet for what will be an exciting season ahead.
The summer break is a short one for our student-athletes as they will soon be back on campus preparing for the upcoming season.
We need all Trojan Nation to join us in those preparations and plan to be with us throughout the entire 2026 football season. Lock in your season tickets now by visiting TroyTrojans.com/FBTickets and help bring the energy to The Vet with us this season.
Coming off a Sun Belt West Division Championship in 2025, we have high expectations for our team heading into the 2026 season with one of the most talented recruiting classes in the Sun Belt.
We'll see you in Montgomery this week for the Sun Belt Baseball Tournament, and we look forward to having you back in Troy later this fall for football, volleyball and soccer as we begin preparations for the 2026-27 athletic seasons!
Go Trojans!
