TROY, Alabama – Hassan Ndayishimiye of the Troy men's tennis team earned a spot in the Preseason Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Singles Rankings, the ITA announced on Tuesday.
Â
Ndayishimiye, a junior, enters the fall season ranked No. 113 in the national singles rankings. The Bujumbura, Burundi, native posted a 22-6 singles record in 2014-15, helping the Trojans to the second Sun Belt Championship in program history.
Â
Playing mostly at No. 2 in the Troy lineup, Ndayishimiye won 11 of his last 13 decisions to close the season. One of the two losses in that span came in Troy's NCAA Tournament match against Florida State.
Â
Ndayishimiye is the first Troy player in the ITA preseason singles rankings since at least 2007 when preseason rankings were first recorded. He is also the only Sun Belt player in the 2015 preseason rankings.
Â
"We are extremely proud of Hassan earning this ranking," Troy head coach Scott Kidd said. "I think Hassan will continue to work hard to reach the elite in college tennis. His ultimate goal is to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championships, as well as the 2016 Olympics."
Â
Over the summer Ndayishimiye competed on the ITF Futures circuit and was also selected to represent Burundi in the Rio 2016 Olympics by virtue of being the highest ranked player from Burundi in the Emirates ATP Rankings.
Â
Ndayishimiye will begin his fall in the qualifying draw of the prestigious Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on October 5 in Tulsa, Okla.
