TROY, Alabama – After a Sun Belt Conference championship and an NCAA Championships appearance, the Troy men's tennis team has finished the 2014-15 season nationally and regionally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Trojans finished with a No. 63 ranking in the ITA Men's National Team Rankings, making them the highest ranked team in the Sun Belt and the second highest ranked team in Alabama, just two spots behind No. 61 Auburn. Troy and Alabama State were the only teams in the state to play in the NCAA Championships.
In the ITA Southern Region rankings, the Trojans finished No. 6 as a team, falling in behind Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, Tulane and Auburn, respectively.
Individually, Gabriel Dias and Hassan Ndayishimye finished the season ranked 17th and 18th, respectively, in the ITA Southern Region singles rankings. Dias finished the year with a 20-7 overall record, including a 15-5 mark in dual matches. Ndayishimye did not compete last fall, but posted a 22-6 singles record in dual matches in the spring.
As a team, the Trojans finished 25-7 in 2014-15, setting a program record for wins. Troy entered the NCAA First Round as one of just three teams (Ohio State, Illinois) in the nation with 25 wins. After eight wins in 2013-14, Troy's 17-win improvement in 2014-15 was the best in the nation.
Scott Kidd, the Sun Belt Coach of the Year, and the Trojans will return their entire lineup in 2015-16, minus Dias.
