Tolver Dozier Opens Play at NCAA Championship

BRADENTON, Florida – Troy University senior Tolver Dozier is tied for 133rd place following the opening round of the NCAA Championship at the Concession Golf Club. Dozier fired an 8-over-par 80 in the first of his three rounds.
Dozier, who received the NCAA Elite 89 Award on Thursday for having the highest GPA among the 156 golfers in the field, carded nine bogeys, eight pars and one birdie during Friday's opening round. His round ranks ahead of five players who are ranked in the top 100 in the country, including No. 17 Michael Gellerman from Oklahoma.
The Dothan, Ala., native opened his round with five straight bogeys before settling down to shoot par on his next five holes. Dozier moved to 9-over after bogeys on four of his next six holes before he birdied the 592-yard No. 17 (par 5).
Dozier will play his second round beginning at 1:10 p.m. Saturday alongside Colorado's David Oraee and East Tennessee State's Gundmundur Kristjansson.
