JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Troy track and field will be sending Corina Cox to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship East Preliminary at the University of North Florida. Cox will compete in the first round of the discus throw, which is set for Thursday at 12:30 CT.
"We are excited that Cori is representing Troy at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Preliminary Championships," said director of track and field, Marc Davis. "She has been working hard all year to get to this next level, and the work has paid off. Focus and determination will get her to the final round. We are excited to see her perform."
In order to compete at regionals, athletes must rank in the top 48 in the region. Cox, who was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team, currently ranks 16th in the discus throw, thanks to a personal record 52.56 meter toss at the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
The sophomore will be competing for a spot at nationals, which will be held in Eugene, Ore. To make the cut, Cox will have to place in the top 12 in her respected event.
Troy, UL Lafayette, ULM, Georgia State, Appalachian State and South Alabama will be representing the Sun Belt in the Eastern Regional.
