TROY, Alabama – Four Troy men's golfers were named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Team, released Friday by the league office. Jared Bettcher was named to the first team and Jake Tucker was a second team selection, while Luke Moser and Tolver Dozier were both honorable mention selections.
Troy's four selections to the All-Sun Belt Team is tied with Georgia State for the most in the league, and Bettcher's selection marks back-to-back years for the Trojan sophomore on the All-Sun Belt First Team. Tucker and Dozier were both second team All-Sun Belt honorees in 2013, while this is Moser's first Sun Belt recognition.
Bettcher currently carries a 72.65 stroke average on the season and a 0.88 score vs. par, both of which rank fourth in the league. However, the native of Auburn, Ala., ranks third in the Sun Belt in the Golfstat comparative rankings.
He carded a 7-under 65 twice over a three-round span during the spring to set a new Troy single-round record. Bettcher has played six rounds under par this season with five of them being in the 60s. He finished third at the Sun Belt Conference Championship last week and has three top 10 finishes this year.
Tucker leads the Trojans with nine rounds under par and is third on the team with a 73.45 stroke average following the Sun Belt Championship, where he finished tied for 17th place. The senior from Cullman, Ala., led Troy to a second place finish at Auburn's Tiger Invitational as he shot a 4-under 212 en route to a seventh place individual finish. He has turned in a top 25 finish in six of Troy's 10 tournaments and has had his card count towards the team score 84.5 percent of the time.
Moser has been the Trojans most consistent player throughout the course of the season as his score has counted towards the team card 94.2 percent of the time. The sophomore from Waterloo, Ontario ranks second on the team with a 73.38 stroke average thanks to three rounds under par and two in the 60s. Moser has a pair of sixth place finishes on the year – the Jack Nicklaus Invitational and the Furman Intercollegiate.
Dozier is tied for the team lead with six top 25 finishes on the year and currently carries a 74.10 stroke average. The senior from Dothan, Ala., has the third best stroke average of the spring among the Trojans with a 73.40 mark. Dozier has six rounds under par on the year and a pair in the 60s. His best finish of the season came at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship when he shot a 1-over 217.
Troy, which is ranked 57th in the country by Golfstat, is awaiting its fate for an at-large berth into the NCAA Men's Golf Championship; the selection show is May 4 at 9 a.m. on the Golf Channel. The final team selected to play in last year's NCAA Championship as an at-large selection was ranked 64th in the final Golfstat rankings.
