Cox Wins Discus, Personal Records Fall at First Day of UNF Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Throwers Corina Cox and Demetris Elia started the Trojans off strong in field events on Friday at the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational on Friday.

Cox, was this week's Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week, won the women's discus throw Friday afternoon with a 50.99-meter toss, making it her third-straight win in the discus competition.

Elia placed second in the men's hammer throw with a 59.22-meter heave, which crushed his previous personal record by almost two solid meters.

Jaevyn Wortham and Allison Taylor both competed in the hammer throw and discus for the Trojan women. Wortham picked up an eighth place finish in hammer throw throwing for 45.66-meters and a new personal record, and finished 12th in discus. Taylor finished eleventh in both hammer throw and discus, breaking her previous record in the hammer throw with a 42.54-meter toss.
Riley Schwietz placed third in the javelin for the women's squad, setting a new person record by a few meters.Â

Elizabeth Lockiler continued the record-breaking performances for the Trojans in the women's pole vault. Locklier vaulted 3.35-meters to bring in a sixth place finish. Carissa Madson and Hayley Watts tied for eleventh with 3.20-meter vaults.

Aleeah Stigarll and Alexus Cobbs competed in women's long jump, placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Stigarll jumped 5.60-meters to a new personal record, while Cobbs took seventh with a 5.57-meter performance.

In running events, the Trojans' best finish of the day was Cameron Rice's 48.68-second sprint for a fifth-place finish in the men's 400-meter dash. Rice also placed 14th in the 200-meter dash, coming in with a time of 21.85 seconds.

Cameia Alexander ran in two races for the Trojan women on Friday. Alexander placed 16th in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 25.06 seconds, and 17th in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 12.23 seconds.
