CONWAY, S.C. – The Troy track and field team had a strong turn out at the first day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Although the 42-team field is the most competition the Trojans have seen so far this season, it's not stopping the team from setting a strong precedent for the rest of the weekend.

Lacey Marcus started the day off for the Trojans, winning the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.44 seconds, over a second faster than the second-place finisher.
Â
Alexus Cobbs and Aleaah Stigarll had outstanding showings in the women's long jump, both women breaking personal records in the event and advancing through to Saturday's final round. Cobbs placed third with a 5.68-meter jump, while Stigarll was right behind in sixth place with a 5.60-meter leap.
Â
Elizabeth Locklier had her best outdoor finish in the pole vault with a 3.20-meter finish, placing fourth. Carissa Madson placed seventh in the event with a 3.50-meter vault.
Â
Troy's women's 4x200-meter relay team of Cobbs, Cameia Alexander, Paige McMillan and Sydney Wright placed third with a time of 1:40.81. While the team of Stigarll, Dallas Worthy, Locklier and Sierra King placed seventh with a time of 1:44.10.
Â
On the men's side, Douglas Dyer competed in three events for the Trojans. Dyer's best finish of the day was a second place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdle at a time of 15.55 seconds, breaking his previous personal record in the event. Dyer also finished sixth in the men's long jump with a 6.06-meter performance.
Â
Joevar James placed sixth in men's javelin with a 57.84-meter throw. Riley Schweitz finished sixth for Troy's women in the javelin throw with a 36.99-meter performance.
Â
Tomorrow's meet will begin at 8 a.m. with discus throw, while running events will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with the women's 300-meter run.
