Beverly-Kelley, Garrett Earn First Team All-Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Troy women's basketball junior Ashley Beverly-Kelley and senior Ronita Garrett were both named to the All-Sun Belt first team, the league announced on Tuesday.
The duo is the first pair of Troy teammates to earn first team all-conference honors since 2002-03 when Chaquita Alexander and Thea Herring both earned All-Atlantic Sun first team honors.
Garrett, a 6-foot forward out of McCormick, S.C., has posted 21 double-doubles this season, six more than any other Sun Belt player and the seventh most in the NCAA. She ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in scoring at 16.0 points per game and first in rebounding with 11.3 boards per game.
She also ranks first in the Sun Belt in offensive rebounds (4.2/g), first in defensive rebounds (7.1/g) and fourth in steals (2.4 spg). Garrett ranks 14th in the NCAA in rebounding, 20th in offensive rebounding and 26th in defensive rebounding.
The senior has already broken the Troy Division I era (1993-present) single-season records for rebounds and double-doubles and currently ranks first in rebounding average. She also owns the school Division I record for single-game rebounds with 19, something she did last season and this season.
Beverly-Kelley, a 5-foot-6 guard out of Adamsville, Ala., led the Sun Belt in scoring in conference games as she averaged 19.7 points per game in league play. She ranks second in scoring overall at 17.7 points per game and has scored 20-plus points in eight of her last 11 games.
She scored a career-high 46 points in Troy's win at Georgia Southern, a mark that is still the most scored by any Division I player this season.
The junior also ranks ninth in the Sun Belt in assists (2.8 apg) and fifth in steals (2.3 spg), making her one of just two players to rank in the league's top 10 in scoring, assists and steals.
Beverly-Kelley scored her 1,000th career point early in the season and now has 1,285 career points, the 11th most in Troy's history and the fifth most in its Division I history. Her career 81.6 free throw percentage currently ranks first in Troy history.
The all-conference honor is the second for Beverly-Kelley who was a second team selection last season. She is the second Trojan to earn a second all-conference honor by her junior season, joining Angie Lowe who earned All-Gulf South honors three times, including the second time as a junior in 1988-89.
Garrett and Beverly-Kelley helped the Trojans to a 20-9 overall record, just the fourth 20-win season in the program's 40-year history. They have the Trojans riding a league-best eight-game winning streak entering this week's Sun Belt Championships.
The Trojans will open the tournament on Wednesday night as the No. 3 seed when they take on No. 6 seed UL Lafayette in a 7:30 p.m. quarterfinal that can be seen on ESPN3.
