Ndayishimye Earns Sun Belt Weekly Award

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Troy men's tennis sophomore Hassan Ndayishimye was named the Sun Belt Male Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.Â

Ndayishimye, a sophomore newcomer from Burundi, opened his Troy career with a 5-1 showing in singles play, including a pair of wins that put Troy at 2-0 in Sun Belt play.

In the Sun Belt matches Ndayishimye played at No. 2 singles. He first cruised past UT Arlington's Daniel Armengol, 6-1, 6-1, then also defeated Georgia State's Zack Kennedy in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.

Ndayishimye started his career with a win over No. 13 Florida's Gordon Watson, the 13th ranked player in the ITA Southeast Region. His lone loss of the season came to No. 35 Florida State's Benjamin Lock, the 10th ranked player in the same region.Â

In addition to the win over Florida and the two Sun Belt opponents, Ndayishimye also defeated opponents from SMU and Abilene Christian. Ndayishimye also posted a 3-2 doubles record to open his Troy career.

Ndayishimye and the Trojans return to the court this weekend when they host Southern Miss on Saturday before traveling to Ole Miss on Sunday.
