Troy Women’s Golf Heads to Kiawah Island Spring Classic

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's golf team returns to the links this weekend as the Trojans head to the Kiawah Island Golf Resort for the 40-team Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic.

The Trojans, who enter the weekend ranked 98^th in the latest GolfStat rankings, finished sixth out of 36 teams in the event last season led by a pair of top 10 finishes from Taylor McGraw and Brooke Spinks.

Head coach Bart Barnes will carry a slightly different lineup with him this time to Kiawah Island as McGraw will be joined by Fátima Fernández Cano, Langley Vannoy, Becca Horner and Sydney Conrad.

Cano leads the Trojans with a 74.33 stroke average on the season and all 15 her rounds have counted towards the team score. Vannoy and McGraw are close behind with averages of 75.87 and 76.13 on the season, while Horner enters the weekend with a 77.83 average and Conrad has a 78.29 mark.

Troy will be the fourth-highest ranked team in the field behind No. 65 College of Charleston, No. 84 Chattanooga and No. 94 Elon. The Trojans will open their day at 9:30 a.m. on the first hole.

The tournament will take advantage of both the Oak Point and Osprey Point course at Kiawah Island. Both course play at just over 5,900 yards with par set at 72.

Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2015 edition of the Kiawah Island Spring Classic has expanded to 40 teams in this year's field and will be played for the first time in its history at Osprey Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C. Two courses are used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament including Oak Point. After 36 holes of play, the top 20 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 21-40 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.
