Trojans Host UL Lafayette in Play 4Kay Game

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team will look for its third straight win when UL Lafayette visits Trojan Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday.  The game will be the first of two Play 4Kay games as Troy looks to raise awareness of breast cancer and take donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

In addition to wearing pink uniforms during the game, the Trojans will sell pink T-shirts for $10 at the doors of Trojan Arena. Troy will also auction off a pink jersey.

Troy (14-9, 9-5) is coming off of a 78-67 win over South Alabama on Thursday. The Trojans led by as many as 23 points with just 5:40 to go, but the Jaguars closed on a 14-2 run.  Troy picked up 20 steals as it forced South Alabama into 31 turnovers and scored 37 points off of them.

Troy is now forcing an average of 23.2 turnovers per game and grabbing 12.3 steals per game, marks that both lead the Sun Belt and both rank fourth in the NCAA.

Troy has scored 75-plus points in eight of its last 11 games, upping its scoring average to a Sun Belt best 76.5 points per game (20th in NCAA). Troy also leads the league in assists (14.9 apg) and rebounds (42.3 rpg).

Troy currently sits in a tie for third place in the Sun Belt with a 9-5 conference record. With six Sun Belt games still the play, Troy is just one win away from tying the program record of 10 Sun Belt wins (2008-09).

Ashley Beverly-Kelley led Troy with 19 points against South Alabama. The junior now ranks third in the Sun Belt in scoring (16.4), ninth in assists (2.9) and second in steals (2.6), making her the only Sun Belt player in the top 10 of all three categories.

Ronita Garrett has 15 double-doubles on the season, ranking first in the Sun Belt and 10th in the NCAA. She is second in the league in rebounding (10.5 rpg) and fifth in scoring (15.5 ppg).

UL Lafayette (16-7, 8-6) has won three of its last four games, including a 68-65 double overtime win at ULM on Thursday. The Cajuns led by 16 in the second half, but went nearly 14 minutes without at field goal as ULM got back into the game.
Jaylyn Gordon scored a career-high 29 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead three Cajuns in double figures. Gordon is averaging a team-best 14.5 points per game on the season.Â

Thanks to its 60-55 win at the Cajundome back on January 3, Troy now leads the all-time series over UL Lafayette, 8-7. The home teams have been dominant as Troy holds a 6-1 record at home against the Cajuns. Before Troy's win in Lafayette last month, the home team had won eight straight games in the series.
