Troy Women Play Well at USTA Clay Court Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Troy men's and women's tennis teams continued play at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational on Saturday. The Troy women will have a doubles team playing in the semifinals on Sunday.

Efriliya Herlina and Jiayuan Xue defeated Louisiana Tech's Manoela Chiacchio and Taly Meker in garnet doubles quarterfinals, 8-5. The Troy duo will take on Clemson's Tristen Dewar and Ally Muller-Krasilnikov in Sunday's semifinals. With a win they would play in the finals, also on Sunday.

Luisa Ferrauti and Tereza Melicharkova picked up singles wins for the Trojans over players from Old Dominion and Stetson, respectively. Melicharkova was down 4-0 in the first set, but came back to win 12 straight games and beat Alexe Viaud, 6-4, 6-0.

"This is our fifth tournament in the last five weekends and I'm proud of the way we competed," Troy women's tennis head coach Rawia Elsisi said.Â

The Troy men saw Pablo Moreno pick up a win over South Alabama's Gerhard Gruindelingh, 6-2, 6-2. Giovani Samaha saw his run in the top singles flight come to an end in the quarterfinals as he lost Daniel Friedrich of South Carolina.
