Troy Opens Play at ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team opened play at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships on Friday with seven Trojans in action at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Jiayuan Xue picked up the Trojans lone main draw win as she defeated Nicholls' Isla Brock in the first round of singles play, 6-3, 6-1. Xue, however, lost her second round match to LSU's Skylar Kuykenall, 6-4, 6-4.
Sanae Ohta, despite losing a first round match in the main draw, bounced back to win a consolation draw first round match over Tulane's Jacqui Katz, 6-3, 6-2. Efriliya Herlina is also still alive in the main singles consolation draw after her first round match up retired from the tournament.
Troy had three players fall in the singles B draw first round, but Tereza Melicharkova and Alicia Rodriguez are still playing in the B singles consolation and will play their first round matches in that draw on Saturday. Luisa Ferrauti, however, was forced to retire from the consolation draw due to injury.
