Troy Welcomes Streaking UT Arlington to Trojan Arena

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team will look for a second straight win on Monday when UT Arlington brings its own five-game winning streak to Trojan Arena. The game is set to begin at 5:15 p.m. and will be the first half of a doubleheader with the Troy men hosting UTA at 7:30 p.m.

Troy (6-5, 1-1) is coming off of an exciting 60-55 win at UL Lafayette on Saturday. The Trojans held the Cajuns to 29 percent shooting and led by as many as 19 in the second half.Â

However, Troy made just one field goal over a 10-minute span late and ULL tied the game at 52-52 with 3:06 to go. The score remained tied until the final 45 seconds when Rachel Reid hit two separate tie-breaking 3-pointers to lead the Trojans to their first win in Lafayette since 2008-09.

Aissata Maiga led the Trojans with 14 points and a team-high three assists in the win. She now ranks first among Sun Belt guards as she shoots 48.7 percent from the floor.

Ashley Beverly-Kelley led the Trojans with 32 points in the conference opener against Texas State. Beverly-Kelley is now leading the Trojans in scoring (14.5 ppg), assists (3.1 apg) and steals (2.3 spg). She posted nine points at ULL, including 5-of-5 free throws.Â

Ronita Garrett has posted seven double-doubles for the Trojans and is averaging a double-double on the season with 13.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Her seven double-doubles are tied for first in the Sun Belt and 15th in the NCAA.

Troy ranks second in the Sun Belt in scoring at 73.1 points per game. Now in Chanda Rigby's third season, the Trojans led the league in scoring in each of the first two. However, this season Troy ranks seventh in the league in field goal percentage (38.7) and eighth in 3-point percentage (28.0), but it averages a league-best 71.6 field goal attempts per game.

Defensively, the Trojans are forcing 22.4 opponent turnovers and picking up 11.4 steals per game, both tops in the Sun Belt.

UT Arlington (8-3, 2-0) has won five straight games, including two home wins over Georgia Southern and South Alabama to open Sun Belt play. The Mavericks allow just 48.9 points per game, the fourth best scoring defense in the NCAA, and have already doubled their four wins from last year.

UTA is led by 6-foot-5 freshman Rebekah Van Dijk who averages 13.0 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. She is the only player in the Sun Belt averaging more rebounds than Garrett and she is tied with Garrett with seven double-doubles.Â

Troy leads the all-time series, 2-1, after sweeping last season's two meetings against UTA. Troy first won, 85-62, in Arlington before winning, 88-72, in Troy in the second to last game of the regular season. Troy committed just nine and 11 turnovers in those two games, respectively, while UTA committed 21 and 32, respectively.
