Trojans Return Home, Host UT Arlington Monday

TROY, Alabama – Troy men's basketball returns to Trojan Arena on Monday night as UT Arlington comes to town. The Trojans and Mavericks are set to tip at 7:30 p.m., after the completion of the women's game, which starts at 5:15 p.m.

Troy is seeking revenge from last year, as the Trojans lost two games to the Mavericks by a combined four points. In the first matchup between the programs, Troy battled back from a 10-point deficit to tie the game at 56 with 14 seconds to play at College Park Center. UT Arlington managed to hit a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining to take the final 59-56 lead.

When the Mavericks came to Trojan Arena they, once again, were able to escape with an win as they won in double overtime, 87-86. Troy held a 49-44 lead with 13:55 remaining in the game, but UT Arlington managed a 19-0 run to take a 14-point lead. The Trojans were relentless as they fought back to go on a 16-2 run to force the game into overtime.

Troy (5-6, 0-2) is still searching for its first conference win of the season, as it fell to UL Lafayette in its first road Sun Belt matchup on Saturday, 91-64. The Trojans' opened conference play at home against Texas State, but a 11 minute and 35 second scoring drought proved to be too much to overcome as they lost 57-46 in the Sun Belt season opener.

Freshman Wesley Person had a career-night in the Trojans' loss at the Cajundome, as he tallied a career-high 28 points. Â Person posted a 9-of-15 mark from the floor, including 3-of-7 from downtown. The freshman was also 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. Chris Bilbo, who tallied a game-high four assists, was the only other Trojan to reach double figures as he shot 4-of-7 on his way to 10 points.

The Mavericks (8-4, 2-0) extended their winning streak to five on Saturday night as they defeated South Alabama, 99-87. Their record is the best 12-game start since opening the 2007-08 season 10-2.

The Mavericks rank first in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage, as they are shooting 37.4 percent. UT Arlington also ranks first in 3-point FG made on the year, averaging 7.3 trey's per game. Drew Charles owns the Sun Belt 3-point percentage first place ranking, as he is shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) from downtown.
