Troy (11-6, 6-2) saw its six-game winning streak snapped in an 82-56 loss at league leader UALR on Thursday night. However, the Trojans are still 6-2 in Sun Belt play, which is their best start since going 7-2 to open Atlantic Sun play in 2002-03.
          Â
In the loss at UALR, Troy went nearly 16 minutes in the first half without a field goal as UALR built a 42-18 halftime lead. Ronita Garrett paced Troy as she finished with a career-high-tying 22 points and 11 rebounds, including 16 points in the second half.
          Â
Garrett now has 11 double-doubles on the season, the best mark in the Sun Belt and 12th best in the NCAA. The senior is averaging 14.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, ranking seventh and second in the Sun Belt, respectively.
          Â
Troy's leading scorer, Ashley Beverly-Kelley, had just five points at UALR but still ranks fifth in the Sun Belt as she averages 14.9 points per game.  Beverly-Kelley is just five days removed from a career-high 34 points in a win over Appalachian State on Monday. In that game, the junior posted her 1,000th career points, becoming the 21st player in Troy history to do so.
          Â
Troy loss at UALR also snapped a streak of four consecutive games with 80-plus points for Troy, who is now leading the Sun Belt in scoring at 74.6 points per game. The Trojans also lead the league in rebounding (42.8), assists (14.4) and steals (11.2).Â
          Â
Arkansas State (12-7, 7-2), the reigning Sun Belt regular season champion, comes to Troy after a 69-57 loss at UL Lafayette on Thursday night. After starting Sun Belt play 5-0, the Red Wolves have lost two of their last four games. Aundrea Gamble, the Sun Belt's leading scorer (19.4 ppg), struggled against the Cajuns with just four points on 2-of-11 shooting.Â
          Â
Arkansas State leads the all-time series against Troy, 9-4, including a 3-3 mark in Troy. The two sides split last season's series with each home team winning. Troy dominated Arkansas State in Trojan Arena last year, winning 83-65 in what was one of just four Sun Belt losses for the Red Wolves.
Â
Following Saturday's contest, Troy will host ULM on Thursday in a game that will air on ESPN3. Troy will be looking for a season sweep of ULM in a game that is scheduled to tip off at 5:15 p.m.
