Trojans Travel to UL Lafayette Saturday

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – The Troy men's basketball team hits the road for its first Sun Belt road matchup against UL Lafayette on Saturday at the Cajundome. The Trojans and Cajuns are slated to tip off at 7:15 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's game, which starts at 5 p.m.

The Trojans (5-5, 0-1) are coming off of a 57-46 loss in their Sun Belt season opener to Texas State at Trojan Arena. Troy was held scoreless for the final 11 minutes and 35 seconds of the first half, which gave the Bobcats a 29-15 advantage at the break.

Troy worked its way back from a 14-point hole, but was unable to take the lead after tying the game with just under eight minutes to go. Musa Abdul-Aleem paced the Trojans with 20 points on the night. John Walton III and Aaron Ariri both tallied a team-high five rebounds.

Musa Abdul-Aleem is the team's leading scorer, averaging 16.2 points per game. He has tallied seven double-digit games and has also paced the Trojans six times this year. He tallied his first double-double in a Trojan uniform on his way to 22 points and 10 boards against Nicholls.

UL Lafayette (7-5, 1-0) opened up conference play with an 83-79 overtime win at UALR on Tuesday. The Cajuns have won each of their five home games at the Cajundome this year. Shawn Long and Kasey Shepherd pace the Cajuns against UALR with 23 and 20 points, respectively. UL-Lafayette's win at UALR was its first conference-opening road win since 2003-04.

UL Lafayette is led by Preseason All-Sun Belt first team player Shawn Long. He currently leads the squad in points, rebounds and blocks. UL Lafayette currently ranks 13th in the nation in scoring offense, as it averages 82.0 points per contest. The Ragin' Cajuns also rank 23rd in the country in FG percentage, as they are shooting 48.6 as a team from the floor.
