Troy Looking for Fifth Straight Win, Hosts Georgia Southern

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team will be looking for its fifth straight win on Saturday when Georgia Southern visits Trojan Arena for a 2 p.m. contest.

Troy (9-5, 4-1) is in the midst of a four-game winning streak, its longest under third-year head coach Chanda Rigby and its longest since a five-game streak to close the 2008-09 regular season.

The Trojans extended the streak thanks to a dominant second half on Thursday in an 82-77 at ULM. After playing their worst offensive half of the season in the first half (21 points, 22 percent shooting), the Trojans played their best offensive half in the second (61 points, 61 percent shooting).Â

After trailing 33-21 at the half, it took the Trojans less than three minutes to tie the score as they started the second half on a 12-0 run. Lacey Buchanon led the Trojans with a career-high 19 points, all in the second half. The 5-foot-3 junior shot 6-of-9 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the free throw line and became the seventh player to lead the Trojans in scoring this season.

Ronita Garrett posted her second straight double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds at ULM. The senior now has nine double-doubles on the season, tying for the most in the Sun Belt. Garrett averages 13.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, ranking eighth and second in the Sun Belt, respectively.

Ashley Beverly-Kelley is Troy's leading scorer at 14.6 points per game, the fifth best mark in the Sun Belt, and now has 975 career points. The junior has played in 75 career games and will soon become the 21st player in Troy history to reach 1,000 career points.

After scoring 96 and 82 points, respectively, in its last two games, Troy is now leading the Sun Belt in scoring at 74.1 points per game. The Trojans also lead the league in rebounding (43.1), assists (14.9) and steals (11.1)

Georgia Southern (4-10, 1-4) is coming off of a 69-57 loss at home to UL Lafayette on Thursday. The Eagles shot a better percentage than ULL, but committed 22 turnovers and forced just 10. The Eagles are last in the Sun Belt in turnover margin at -3.79. The Eagles picked up their first ever Sun Belt win last weekend when they won at South Alabama, 67-53.

Troy leads the all-time series over the Eagles, 4-2, with the last meetings coming in 2006-07. Troy won both meetings that season and has won the last four against Georgia Southern. The Eagles two wins both came in the 1970s.
