Former Troy Golfer Zach Portemont to Compete on Golf Channel’s Big Break

TROY, Alabama – Former Troy University student-athlete Zach Portemont will be a contestant on the upcoming season of Big Break on the Golf Channel.
Portemont will compete against 11 other golfers for $120,000 worth of cash and prizes and an automatic berth in the 2015 Barbasol Championship at the RTJ Trail-Grand National Lake Course in Auburn/Opelika, Ala. The season premier is set for Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
Produced in partnership with VISIT FLORIDA, Discover The Palm Beaches and PGA National, Big Break The Palm Beaches, Fla., features one of the most talented and diverse casts in series history. The cast includes several collegiate All-Americans, multiple-time winners on various mini tours and an Iraq War Veteran looking to become the first amputee golfer to compete on the PGA TOUR. A special "Meet the Players" show will air Monday, Jan. 26 at 9 a.m.
Portemont was a four-year letterwinner for the Trojans from 2008 to 2011 before turning pro following his graduation with a degree in sport & fitness management. The Andalusia, Ala., native earned Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Month honors after turning in three straight top-10 finishes as a senior.
He competed on the various mini tours throughout the Southeast and picked up his third career victory this past September. Portemont shot a final-round 8-under to claim the title at the Dixie PGA Section Assistant Championship one week before heading to West Palm Beach to compete on Big Break.
