Troy Soccer/Track Complex Set For Night Games
9/30/2014 2:18:00 PM | Track & Field, Soccer
TROY, Alabama – The Troy Soccer/Track Complex underwent a recently completed facelift. The home of the Troy University soccer team is set to host its first night game after four light standards were installed.
Â
"We're excited that we'll be playing under the lights," soccer head coach Jason Hamilton said. "We hope playing night games will allow more fans to attend games and better the overall fan experience."
Â
The facility cost $1 million to construct when it opened in 2003; it was renovated in 2005 to feature a press box. The grand stand located below the press box seats 500 spectators. In 2006, soccer offices and locker rooms were added to go along with new concessions and restrooms.
Â
"This is a tremendous upgrade for our coaches and our student-athletes for both practice and competition purposes," Troy Athletics Director John Hartwell said. "The improvements also help our soccer and track programs in recruiting. It is another upgrade across all sports that will enhance the fan experience."
Â
Senior defender Paige McMillan said the team is excited to play under the lights for the first time on Friday.
Â
"Having lights on our field is a dream. We all love playing under the lights on the road; this gives us that much more to work for," McMillan said. "It's unbelievable, the feeling of playing in the spotlight, on a big stage. We can't wait to play a game out there."
Â
The team will host UL Lafayette on Friday at 7 p.m. to mark the facility's first match under the floodlights.
