TROY, Ala. – The Troy University soccer team will travel to Mobile, Ala., to play a pair of matches over the weekend in the Jaguar Classic at The Cage.
Â
The Trojans will take on Francis Marion on Friday at 4p.m. and North Florida on Sunday at 2 p.m. Live stats for both games can be found at USAJaguars.com.
Â
Troy (6-2) is off to its best start in program history and a win or draw against Francis Marion on Friday would match the program's longest ever unbeaten streak of seven.
Â
Behind a solid defensive effort and a pair of second half goals from Jasmine Fahrnbauer, the Trojans knocked off in-state rival UAB 2-1 on Sunday. Two days earlier, Troy defeated Jacksonville State 3-1 with goals from freshman Natalie Melillo, Chelsey Williams and Alissa Jones.
Â
Jones has scored six goals on the season, one shy of her 2011 freshman total of seven. With the goal against the Gamecocks, Jones moved into tie for seventh all-time at Troy with 14 career goals. The junior from Mustang, Okla., currently stands 19th nationally averaging two points per game and 12th in total points. She has also been credited with three game-winning goals, which is tied for sixth best in the NCAA.
Â
Also against Jacksonville State, Williams took sole possession of third place all-time at Troy with her 20th career goal. Williams is also two points shy of tying Jill Pinder with 49 career points. A portion of the Trojans' offensive success can be credited to the ability of sophomore Annabell Simpson to distribute the ball to her teammates. Simpson leads the team with five assists, tying her for 15th in the NCAA.
Â
Francis Marion (0-5) enters the weekend having been outscored 24-2 on the season. The Patriots most recently fell to Elon and UNC Wilmington in the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational on Sept. 13-14.
Â
North Florida (1-6) lost to Georgia State on Friday before having its Sunday match against Georgia Southern canceled due to rain.
Â
Troy and Francis Marion have never met on the soccer pitch, while the Trojans dropped their only meeting with North Florida, 2-1 in double overtime, in 2008.
