TROY, Ala.- Tevin Calhoun, who played with the Troy men's basketball team from 2012-14, has signed to play overseas for the Gran Canaria CBA team in Spain.
Calhoun was noticed by the Canarias Basketball Academy when the Trojans traveled to Spain in the summer of 2013, where they played against CBA's collegiate team. This marks the first year CBA will have a professional squad. Calhoun said they (CBA) asked Coach Cunningham about him, and it went on from there.
"We're really excited about Tevin's decision to sign with Gran Canaria CBA," said head coach Phil Cunningham. "I believe Tevin has the potential to have a long and successful professional career because of his talent, athleticism, and work ethic. Gran Canaria CBA offers Tevin a terrific opportunity to begin his professional career working with an experienced and talented coaching staff in an awesome part of the world. Who wouldn't want to live in Gran Canaria and get paid to play basketball?"
On what Calhoun is most excited about he states, "Just the overall experience. I have been to Spain before, when we traveled abroad last summer. It was amazing. I had a blast bonding with my teammates and coaching staff. I'm just happy that I have the opportunity to continue playing the game I love in a beautiful country."
Calhoun was Troy's third leading scorer in 2013-14 when he averaged 10.5 points per game. Over Calhoun's two years, he tallied 507 points for Troy. Calhoun scored a career-high 35 points in Troy's 98-84 win at Arkansas State in 2013-14, which was the most points scored by a Trojan last season.
Calhoun has nothing but thanks for the Troy basketball program he states, "I just want to give a special thanks to Coach C and the whole coaching staff. They are an amazing group of guys that I will remember forever."
Calhoun graduated this past summer with his social science degree.
