Troy Women’s Basketball Starts Prep for Italy Trip

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team began practice on Friday in preparation for its upcoming trip to Italy. The Trojans will spend eight days in Italy and will play two games on their tour.
On Friday, the Trojans completed the first of 10 practices that will be held before they leave on August 1.
"This is such an incredible opportunity to get these 10 practices in and to be able to bond as a team," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "The experience of traveling to Italy is big in itself, but getting the opportunity, before the season starts, to get these extra practices in is huge for us."
While in Italy, the Trojans will visit Rome, Vatican City, Tuscany, Florence, Pisa and Venice while playing two games in Pisa and Trieste. The team will return to Troy on August 9. To follow the trip, search for #TrojansinItaly on Twitter and Instagram, or visit TroyTrojans.com.
The Trojans return seven letter winners from last season's team that led the Sun Belt and ranked 15th in the nation in scoring at 80.4 points per game.
Included in the returners is rising junior and All-Sun Belt selection Ashley Beverly-Kelley who averaged 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and a team-high 3.5 assists per game. Troy's 2014-15 roster will also feature four seniors including Kourtney Coleman, Ronita Garrett, Brianna Lancaster and Aissata Maiga.
The Trojans will also suit up six newcomers for the 2014-15 season, including two NJCAA All-Americans in forward Joymesia Howard and guard Lacey Buchanon. Howard (No. 1) and forward Caitlyn Ramirez (No. 16) were also two of the top-ranked junior college prospects in the nation.
Now entering it's third season with Rigby at the helm, the Troy program has improved its win total in each of Rigby's first two seasons while also greatly improving it's offensive numbers.
