LAFAYETTE, La. – The 2014 Sun Belt Conference Championships begin on Wednesday, with the Trojans taking on the Warhawks of ULM at 10 a.m. at Lamson Park.
Â
Live stats and video will be available on the softball schedule page on TroyTrojans.com.
Â
Troy (22-29-2, 5-13 SBC) enters the game as the seventh seed in the conference. Troy split its two games with in-state rival No. 21 South Alabama last weekend, winning game one 1-0 and falling in game two 3-2.
Â
Ashley Rainey was tremendous yet again for the Trojans, allowing just two hits over seven innings. Rainey retired the first 12 batters she faced and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. In total, Rainey has now gone 18 consecutive innings without allowing a run.
Â
ULM (22-25, 6-14 SBC) dropped all three games last week at Louisiana-Lafayette. The Warhawks are led this season by Miyuki Navarrete with a .359 batting average. Alexis Cacioppo leads the squad with nine home runs and 43 RBIs.
Â
Troy lost both meetings with ULM this season, with both going to extra innings. Game one went scoreless through eight innings, before the Warhawks hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth. Troy got out an early lead in game two, but conceded the lead over the next three innings and eventually fell in the eighth.
Â
Should the Trojans win, they will advance to take on No. 3 Georgia State. Troy went 1-2 against Georgia State this season, but had a season-best 20 hits over the series.
