JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first day of competition at the NCAA East Prelims is in the books and two Troy athletes have advanced to Friday's quarterfinal races.
Â
Benjamin Martin placed third in his heat and 14th overall, with a time of 10.49 seconds, to qualify for the men's 100-meter dash quarterfinal that will be held on Friday at 5:30 p.m. (CDT).
Â
Jordan Landburg will have a busy day Friday competing in both the men's 400-meter quarterfinal at 7 p.m. and the 200-meter first round race at 5 p.m. Landburg placed fourth in his heat and 22nd overall in the first round of the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.82 seconds.
Â
If Martin or Landburg finishes in the top twelve in Friday's quarterfinal races, they will advance to the NCAA Division I Championships in Eugene, Ore., in June.
Â
Zach Douglas completed the men's shot put in 31st with a 17.36-meter throw. Although Douglas did not qualify for nationals he has had an impressive sophomore season, setting his own personal record and winning men's shot put at this year's Troy University Coach "O" Invitational.
Â
Myles Charley placed 38th in the men's long jump competition with a 6.97-meter jump. Charley will compete on Friday in the men's triple jump at 4 p.m.
Â
"Charley and Douglas gained some valuable experience in their first appearance at an NCAA Regional," head coach Jill Lancaster said. "Douglas is already making plans for next season and Charley turns his attention to the triple jump – they both represented our program at a high level and we are proud of them."
Â
Corina Cox will compete in the women's discus competition at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Cox is currently ranked 20th in the NCAA East and finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in the event.
