Jared Bettcher Wraps Up Day One at NCAA Auburn Regional

AUBURN, Ala. – Troy's Jared Bettcher struggled during the opening round of the NCAA Auburn Regional as the Trojan freshman shot an 89 at the Auburn University Course on Thursday.
Bettcher opened with a par on the first hole before back-to-back bogeys on No. 2 and No. 3. The native of Auburn, Ala., sank his only birdie of the round on the 535-yard, par-5 No. 4 to get back to 1-over. However, four more bogeys on the front nine along with a couple of big numbers on the back nine contributed to his 17-over for the day.
"It's a hard course and he didn't have his stuff today," head coach Matt Terry said. "Luckily its just day one and he has two more rounds to prove himself. He just needs to start new tomorrow."
Bettcher will be back on the course Friday at 9:40 a.m. for the second of three rounds in the NCAA Regional.
