Several Season-Best Marks Set on Day Two at SBC Championships

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Trojans completed the second day of the Sun Belt Conference Championship with several strong performances and season bests, setting the team up for a strong finish on Sunday.

"We had a lot of great performances on day two," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "We saw several athletes set personal-bests on the day and we know that we're set up to make a move on the final day."

In Saturday's field event finals, Zach Douglas completed the men's shot put in third place with a 17.70-meter throw. Douglas, a sophomore, is ranked 56th in the NCAA. Douglas will compete in Sunday's discus final.

Myles Charley finished ninth place out of twenty-six competitors in the long-jump competition. Charley's 7.38-meter jump is a season best, beating his previous record from the Coach "O" Invitational.

Julia Ostendorf placed fifth in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:51.18, a new season-best and a new Troy University record. Ostendorf will run in Sunday's 5,000-meter run final with fellow Trojans Mikayla Hodges and Samantha Smith.

"The women both move into the top-10 in school history in the heptathlon, so we're very proud of them," Lancaster said. "The men showed some positive signs but just weren't able to package it all together."

In the conference multi-event finals Aleeah Stigarll finished the heptathlon in eighth place with 4,436 points. Adria Hill came right behind in ninth place with 4,068 points.

Samuel Johnson completed the decathlon in ninth place, while Douglas Dyer finished in 11th. Dyer's best performance of the meet so far took place in Saturday's 1500-meter run where he posted a time of 4:41.52 for a third place finish.

Several Trojans qualified for Sunday's finals in Saturday's preliminary races. For the Trojan women, Dallas Worthy and Taylor McDonald both brought in fifth place finishes in their respective events. Worthy will advance to Sunday's 400-meter dash finals. McDonald will compete in the 400-meter hurdle final at 6:40 p.m. on the final day of competition.

Both Thaddeus Curtis and Jaron Davis finished the men's 110-meter hurdle with new season best times, advancing to tomorrow's final race at 5:45 p.m. Curtis placed third with a time of 14.18 seconds, while Davis finished in sixth with a time of 14:39 seconds.

Benjamin Martin qualified for the men's 100 and 200-meter dash finals on Sunday. Martin finished the 100-meter dash in 10.26 seconds, placing fifth, while his sixth place, 20.97-second performance in the 200-meter dash gave Martin a new season-best time.

Jordan Landburg will also be advancing to the men's 200-meter dash, as well as the 400-meter dash finals on Sunday. Landburg finished third in the 400-meter dash, and fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.95 seconds, his best time of the season.

Phillip Pritchett was solid in the 100-meter dash, setting a personal best and finishing in 10th at 10.55 seconds, just four one-hundredths of a second from qualifying for the finals. Chaun Lynn also finished just outside of qualifying for the finals in the 400-meters. Lynn took 11th with a time of 47.80 seconds, a personal best.

Martin, Landburg and Curtis will also compete in Sunday's 4x100-meter relay along with Pritchett. The team is currently ranked third in the conference and 81st in the NCAA.

Sunday will wrap up the conference championship, including the remaining field event finals. Corina Cox will compete for the conference title in Sunday's women's discus competition. Delonte Martistee will take part in the men's high jump contest, while Lynn and Daniel Dent will compete in the triple jump.

Action wraps up on Sunday, beginning with field events at 10 a.m. and running events commencing at 5 p.m.
