TROY, Ala. – The Troy track and field team will be hosting The 14th Annual Coach "O" Invitational this weekend at Jesse H. Colley Track on the Troy University Campus. Athletes from 8 schools including conference foes Georgia State and University of South Alabama will be competing.
"The Coach 'O' Invitational is always one of the best meets of the season," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "We're very thankful for the support of Coach 'O' throughout the year and especially with this meet. We have a great field coming in and it's always nice to be able to compete at home."
The meet will begin on Friday at 3 p.m. with the women's hammer throw, while running events begin a 4:30 p.m. with the women's 3000-meter steeplechase. Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's high jump while running events are slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
On Friday, Demetris Elia, who is ranked seventh in the conference, will compete in men's hammer throw. Myles Charley is also ranked in the top-10 in the conference, and will take part in the long jump competition.
Julia Ostendorf will run in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase on Friday. Ostendorf's last run in the event at the Tiger Track Classic resulted in a new Troy University record.
Seat Kent is currently ranked in the top-10 in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase in the national U20 ranking released earlier this week. He will compete in Friday's race with fellow Trojan Cameron Allen.
The Trojan men are currently ranked 15th in the south region, and several Trojan men are in the top 100-standings in their respective events.
Ben Martin will run in the 100-meter dash on Saturday. Martin is ranked 23rd in the country and second in the Sun Belt in the event. He will also run in the 200-meter dash.
Jordan Landburg is ranked 45th in the nation in the 400-meter dash. Landburg will also compete in the 200-meter dash as well as the 4x400-meter relay.
Martin and Landburg will run alongside Philip Pritchett and Thaddeus Curtis in the men's 4x100-meter relay on Saturday. The group is also currently nationally ranked in 63rd and fourth in the conference.
