Women’s Basketball Signees Making a Splash

Troy Women Add Four on First Day of Early Signing Period | Troy Women Add Two on Signing Day
TROY, Ala. – Just a week after adding two more members to its 2014 signing class, the Troy women's basketball team has seen its four early signees make quite a splash in their final season before joining the Trojans.
Lacey Buchanon, a 5-foot-5 point guard from Gadsden State, was an NJCAA All-America second team selection and the ACCC Player of the Year. The Jacksonville, Ala., native led Gadsden State to a 28-6 overall record and an appearance in the ACCC Tournament finals.
Buchanon averaged 18.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as she led a Gadsden State offense that averaged 76.5 points per game, tops in the ACCC. The sophomore also posted 2.0 steals per game and a 1.9 assists-to-turnover ratio.
Caitlyn Ramirez, a 6-foot-2 power forward from Tyler Junior College, was an NJCAA Region XIV All-Conference and All-Region selection as she helped Tyler to a 30-6 overall record and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament Elite Eight.
Ramirez averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for a Tyler team that averaged a nation-best 91.6 points per game and finished ranked 11th in the final NJCAA Top 25 poll. Ramirez finished the season ranked No. 16 overall and No. 3 among power forwards on the Dan Olsen Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
Felecity Havens, a 5-foot-11 guard from Ashley High School in Wilmington, N.C., led Ashley to the third round of the NCHSAA Class 4A Playoffs and a 17-12 overall record.
Havens was the Mideastern Conference Player of the Year, the StarNews All-Area Player of the Year and an NCBCA All-District 2 first team selection. She averaged 18.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
Daija Williams, a 6-foot-3 center from Gadsden City High School in Gadsden, Ala., led Gadsden City to a 20-5 overall record and an appearance in the AHSAA Class 6A Regional Semifinals. She helped Gadsden City to a No. 9 ranking in the ASWA Class 6A Basketball Rankings.
Williams was an ASWA Class 6A All-State honorable mention selection and an AHSAA Class 6A Area 9 all-area selection. She was the Etowah County Player of the Year for the second straight year after averaging 9.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
The Trojan's four early signees are part of a 2014 signing class that now has six members with the addition of Simiah Blount and Rachel Reid last week. All six will join the Trojans for the 2014-15 season.
