Trojans Begin Home Stand, Host No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette

TROY, Ala. – After five straight games on the road, the Trojan softball team returns to Troy to start its final home stand of the season on Friday. The Trojans will play three games against No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m.

Troy (18-25-2, 2-9 SBC) went 2-1 last week, including a 3-2 win over in-state rival UAB in eight innings. UAB had entered the game as one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 15-of-20 heading into the matchup. Erica Davis provided the extra-inning heroics, plating Ebony Wright with an RBI double in the eighth.
Troy also picked up a split with UT Arlington on the road. The Trojans dropped game one, 2-1, but came back to take game two, 5-4. Ashley Rainey was the top performer on the day, pitching nine total innings and allowing just two earned runs over the two games.
Wright currently leads the team in batting average at .333. Michelle Phelps and Amanda Winters are tied for the team lead in home runs with five, while Phelps also leads the squad in RBIs with 28. Rainey holds the top ERA on the squad at 2.68, while Jaycee Affeldt's 145 strikeouts lead the team.
Louisiana-Lafayette (31-7-1, 11-1 SBC) picked up a 5-4 win over McNeese State on Wednesday night and took 2-of-3 against South Alabama over the weekend. The Ragin' Cajuns are led by Natalie Fernandez, who is hitting .464 on the year. Lexie Elkins and Haley Hayden lead the team in home runs with 13 each.
Troy is 4-25 all-time against ULL, including three losses last season. Last time the Trojans met the Ragin' Cajuns in Troy, the Trojans took 1-of-3.
