Women's Basketball Adds Two on Signing Day

Troy Adds Four on First Day of Early Signing Period
TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball program and head coach Chanda Rigby announced the signing of two players on Wednesday to national letters of intent. Simiah Blount and Rachel Reid become the fifth and sixth members of the 2014 signing class and will join the Trojans this fall.
Both Blount and Reid come to Troy after two seasons at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla. The pair helped Hillsborough to a second place finish in the Mid-Florida Conference in each season and two appearances in the Florida College System Activities Association (FSCAA) state tournament.
The pair joins Lacey Buchanon, Felecity Havens, Caitlyn Ramirez and Dajia Williams who all singed NLIs with the Trojans in November.
Simiah Blount – 5'9" – G – Williamsport, Pa. (Hillsborough CC)Blount, a 5-foot-9 guard, was an FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII All-State team selection as a sophomore in 2013-14 and was also a first team All-Mid-Florida Conference selection.
A Williamsport, Pa., native, Blount stuffed the stat sheet in 2013-14 as she averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.9 steals per game. Her 120 steal in 31 games was the eighth best total in the nation. She shot 43.7 percent from the field and 41.2 (42-of-102) percent from deep on the season.
As a freshman in 2012-13, Blount was an FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII All-State team honorable mention performer as she averaged 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
"Simiah will help be an immediate contributor to us because of her scoring ability from the perimeter," Rigby said. "She will also contribute to our full court pressure defense, as she has long arms and is good at disrupting the opponent's dribble."
Rachel Reid – 5'8" – G – Tampa, Fla. (Hillsborough CC)
A Tampa, Fla., native, Reid averaged 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game. She shot 44.2 percent from the field and 41.0 percent (55-of-134) from deep.
As a freshman in 2012-13, Reid was a second team All-Mid-Florida Conference selection after averaging 9.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
"I first saw Rachel play this past summer at the Junior College All-Star event where the nation's top junior college players are showcased," Rigby said. "Even among other star players, it was obvious that she was a standout. She scores exceptionally well in transition and competes on the defensive side of the ball. I'm looking forward to plugging Rachel into our system and watching her shine. "
