Trojans Begin Weekend Competitions

TROY, Ala. – Friday marked the start of two meets this weekend for the Troy track and field team. The team is competing in both the Spec Towns National Team Invitational in Athens, Ga., and the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
In Athens, the Trojans saw several excellent performances during the first events of the competition.
Delonte Martistee started the day for the Trojans and ended with a third place finish in the men's triple jump with a 14.67-meter performance. Martistee is currently ranked third in the Sun Belt Conference.
Myles Charley also competed in the triple jump competition, finishing in sixth place with a 14.45-meter jump. Charley was seventh in the conference in both the triple jump and long jump before today's competition. He will compete in the long jump contest on Saturday.
Corina Cox completed the women's shot put in third place with a 13.32-meter throw. This performance beats Cox's previous season-best throw of 13.15-meters at the Alabama Relays that had her ranked sixteenth in the conference. Cox will compete in the women's discus tomorrow, an event that she is ranked second in the country among U20 athletes.
Demetris Elia finished Friday in eighth place in the men's hammer throw. Elia is ranked seventh in the conference in the event.
Saturday's competition will wrap up field events, as well as kick off the running portion of the meet. The men's 4x100 relay team of Benjamin Martin, Jordan Landburg, Thaddeus Curtis and Philip Pritchett will compete both as a team and individually. The relay team is currently ranked in the NCAA standings and is second in the Sun Belt.
Individually, the members will be running to maintain many of their own rankings. Martin is currently ranked first in the conference and 14th in the NCAA in the men's 100-meter dash, as well as second in the conference and 46th nationally in the 200-meter dash. He will run in both events on Saturday.
Landburg is second in the Sun Belt and 19th in the NCAA standings for the men's 400-meter dash, as well as fifth in the conference and nationally ranked in the 200-meter dash. Saturday, he will compete in both races as well as the men's 4x400-meter relay with Chaun Lynn, Cameron Rice and Curtis, that is ranked third in the conference.
Curtis is holding the first place in the conference and an NCAA ranking in the men's 110-meter hurdles. He will compete in tomorrow's race around 2:30 p.m.
Dallas Worthy and Taylor McDonald will compete for the Trojan women on Saturday in Athens. Worthy will run in the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. McDonald will also compete in the 200-meters, as well as the 400-meter hurdles.
In Mobile, the Trojans also saw several high marks as well, with two athletes setting new season bests.
Issac Jennings placed fifth in men's triple jump and Alexus Cobbs finished fifth in the women's triple jump. Jennings was ranked 10th in the conference before today's competition while Cobbs was ranked 15th, however both set new season bests that beat their previous conference ranking jumps.
Justin Barlow placed eighth in men's hammer throw, while Samuel Johnson placed eighth in men's pole vault.
The Trojan's will continue competition in Mobile tomorrow with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events starting at 11:30 a.m.
In Athens, field events will commence at 10:30 a.m. and running events will begin 1:10 p.m.
