Troy Baseball Welcomes New Orleans for Weekend Series

TROY, Ala – The Troy University baseball team will open a three-game series with New Orleans on Friday at 6 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field. The series will continue on Saturday at 1 p.m. and concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Troy (7-6) enters the game looking to break a two-game slide; the Trojans fell to Samford on Tuesday.

Garrett Pitts has been on a tear lately reaching base safely in 13 straight games and recording a base hit in seven straight. Third baseman Nick Masonia enters the game with a six-game hitting streak and having hit three home runs in the last two games. The Trojans will send RHP Tanner Hicks (1-2, 3.00) to the mound for the series opener on Friday. Hicks was the hard-luck loser in Troy's 3-1 loss to Southern Miss last week. LHP Shane McCain (2-1, 1.42) will take the mound on Saturday while junior RHP Ben Tidwell (0-0, 2.38) will get his first career start on Sunday. McCain is one of just three Sun Belt Conference pitchers to have recorded a quality start in each of his first three starts.

New Orleans will counter with a trio of juniors in RHP Alex Smith (0-2, 6.28) on Friday, RHP Darron McKigney (0-1, 4.72) on Saturday and RHP Nick Halliday (2-0, 2.87) on Sunday. The Privateers (3-7) were swept by Indiana State last week.

New Orleans was a founding member of the Sun Belt Conference in 1976 but left in 1980. After rejoining in 1991, the school again left the league in 2010 and is currently a member of the Southland Conference.

New Orleans is led offensively by Reese Kanter in batting average (.378) and doubles (4). Hezekiah Randoulph heads the squad in home runs (2) and RBIs (7).

The Trojans lead the all-time series 15-6 including a 9-4 mark at Riddle-Pace Field. The team last met in 2011 when Troy swept the Privateers in a four-game series.
