TROY, Ala. – A tough first inning proved to be too much, as the Troy softball team (15-21-2, 1-6 SBC) fell to Georgia State (16-18, 2-4 SBC), 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.

"I'm very disappointed that we couldn't come out and secure the series today," said head coach Melanie Davis. "We have to keep fighting, keep battling, keep working and try to find our form. I know these kids are putting forth great efforts but we need to find a way to execute.

Georgia State wasted no time getting on the board, picking up three runs in the top of the first inning.

The Trojans chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the first, with Michelle Phelps driving in Taylor Smartt on an RBI single.

The Panthers added one more in the third and two in the seventh to take the game, 6-1.

Jaycee Affeldt struggled in the circle, allowing three runs in the first inning. Sara Mock came in in relief and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three runs.

The Trojans will take on Southern Miss next, in a Tuesday double-header at the Troy Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
