TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team (14-19-2) finally returned home to the friendly confines of the Troy Softball Complex after more than a month on the road, but came up short, falling to No. 13/12 South Alabama (26-3), 9-1.

"This inability to score runs is something that has been haunting us," said head coach Melanie Davis. "When your team collectively goes into a slump you have to stay positive. I can promise you we will be working as hard as the NCAA will allow us to work to try to get out of it."

Affeldt was strong early, allowing just one hit over 4.2 innings, striking out nine for the second straight game. She walked the bases loaded in the fifth and was replaced by Rachel Rigney. South Alabama then put up four runs to take a commanding lead.

South Alabama got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Chloe Rathburn, plating Blair Johnson.

The Jaguars would add four more in the fifth, including a three-run home run by Amanda Minihan, one in the sixth and three in the seventh to take the 9-1 win.

Amanda Winters had a pair of hits on the day, while Kacie McAllister picked up her first triple of the season. McAllister picked up Troy's lone run, coming home on a sacrifice fly by Erica Davis.

The Trojans will face Georgia State next, in a three-game series at home beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
