Trojans Win Home Match, 6-1

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team defeated Xavier of Louisiana, 6-1, at home on Saturday afternoon. The home match was just the second of the season for the Trojans, but the first of four straight at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (3-11) won the doubles point and all but one singles match in the win over Xavier (4-7), the ninth ranked NAIA team in the nation.Â
The doubles point win included a victory at No. 1 by Troy's Gabriel Sciacca Dias and Pablo Moreno over Kyle Montrel and Nikita Soifer of Xavier, the 12th-ranked NAIA doubles pair in the nation.
The Trojans also defeated nationally-ranked Montrell (No. 17) and Soifer (No. 40) in singles play. Dias defeated Montrell, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 1 singles, while Sami Ghorbel defeated Soifer, 7-6, 6-2, at No. 2.
Moreno picked up the first singles win for Troy, defeating Xavier's Viktor Svoboda at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. Karen Khachatryan also won in straight sets for Troy, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4. Mansingh Athare was the other winner for Troy, taking a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles.
The Trojans return to the court on Wednesday when they host Bradley at 2 p.m at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
