Men’s Golf Opens Play at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Troy men's golf team opened the Seminole Intercollegiate with a 302 at the Southwood Golf Course on Friday, which puts the Trojans in 10th place with 36 holes to play on Saturday.
Jared Bettcher closed strong with three birdies on the back nine after shooting a 3-over on the front nine. He finished day with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 24th place, but is within five strokes of individual leader Trey Rule from Mercer.
Phillip Brennan carded the most birdies on the day for the Trojans with five, including three on the back nine, but took a triple-bogey on No. 15 and finished with a 3-over 75. Brennan is tied for 34th with teammate Tolver Dozier had a birdie on No. 10 and finished with just four bogeys – the fewest on the team.
Clayton Vannoy was strong out of the gate as he was 2-under after 10 holes with four birdies, however he shot 8-over to close out his round and finished with a 78. Vannoy is tied for 55th with Jake Tucker, who played 2-over on the front nine. Playing as an individual, Luke Moser shot an 82 and is tied for 72nd place.
No. 34 Mercer has a five-stroke lead over James Madison after shooting a 282 as a team. No. 29 South Florida (289), No. 12 Florida State (290) and North Carolina (293) round out the top five.
The Seminole Intercollegiate will conclude with 36 holes on Saturday after the threat of inclement weather in the Tallahassee area on Sunday forced officials to bump the final round up a day.
