NEW ORLEANS, La. – Troy's Joanna Harden was selected to the women's basketball All-Sun Belt first team and Ashley Beverly-Kelley was selected to the second team on Tuesday as announced by the league.
Harden, a Pompano Beach, Fla., native, led the Sun Belt in scoring at 25.7 points per game. She enters this week's Sun Belt Championships as the sixth best scorer in the NCAA, and is riding a streak of 15 straight games with at least 20 points.
The 25.7 scoring average is the best in school history and Harden will be just the sixth player in the Sun Belt's 32-year history to average 25-plus.
The senior is a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is given annually to the NCAA's top point guard. Harden has broken the Troy single-season and single-game scoring records this season.
She is just the third Troy player to earn first team All-Sun Belt honors, and the first since Kylie Morrissy in 2008-09.
Beverly-Kelley, an Adamsville, Ala., native, ranks seventh in the Sun Belt in scoring at 13.4 points per game. She is fourth in the league in assists at 3.6 per game and also ranks in the top 10 in steals.
The sophomore has scored in double figures in 19 games this season, including 20-plus seven times. Beverly-Kelley is the first Troy underclassmen to earn All-Sun Belt honors since Morrissy did so as a sophomore in 2006-07.
The first and second team selection for Harden and Beverly-Kelley marks the first time since 2002-03 that Troy had two all-conference selections. Thea Herring and Chaquita Alexander were each All-Atlantic Sun selections that season.
The duo and the Trojans open the Sun Belt Championships on Wednesday night when they take on UALR in the quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m.
