Troy Men’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Tiger Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. – Wil Clowdus and Jared Bettcher shot even par to lead the Troy men's golf team on the final day of the Tiger Invitational at the Grand National Golf Course in Auburn, Ala., on Tuesday. The Trojans finished the 14-team field in fifth place behind a trio of ranked teams.
Bettcher, who tied a school record with an opening round 66, recorded the best finish of his young career after tying for fifth. Playing in his hometown, the freshman turned in Troy's best 54-hole score of the year with a 5-under 211 – five shots better than the previous low of 216 by Phillip Brennan.
Bettcher finished 14 strokes ahead of his closest teammate as Brennan and Clayton Vannoy tied for 35th place with a 225. Brennan carded a 1-over in Tuesday's final round and Vannoy finished 4-over on the day. Luke Moser shot a 5-over and finished tied for 44th while Clowdus finished in a tie for 48th place.
Tolver Dozier competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 39th place after shooting a 10-over for the tournament.
The Trojans found plenty of birdies on the golf course as they combined to sink 16 in the final round with Bettcher's five leading the way; he finished with 16 birdies over his 54 holes. Clowdus sank three birdies in the final round, while Moser had four birdies.
No. 28 Auburn (842) ran away with the team title as the Tigers won by 19 strokes over No. 42 Kennesaw State (861). Mississippi State (873) finished in third place followed by No. 38 Memphis (875) and Troy (882).
The Trojans finished two shots ahead of in-state foe Jacksonville State and 15 shots in front of Sun Belt rival South Alabama.
Troy has a quick turnaround as it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., this weekend for the Seminole Intercollegiate at the Southwood Golf Course.
