Troy Softball Goes 1-1 at Eagle Classic Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. – Two games for the Trojans on Saturday, two no-hitters. The Troy softball team (8-9-2) no-hit Tennessee State (4-13) in a 7-0 win to start the day and was no-hit by Georgia Southern (11-5) in a close 2-0 loss in game two.

Jaycee Affeldt was Troy's top performer in the first game, picking up her first collegiate no-hitter. She struck out eight on the day while facing just 23 batters.

Troy wraps up competition at the Eagle Classic on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Middle Tennessee.

Troy 7, Tennessee State 0

The Trojans got the scoring started in the third inning. Chelsea Eytel led off with a single to right field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Becca Hartley. Next up, Ebony Wright roped picked up a single, moving Eytel to third. Amanda Winters drew a pinch-hit walk, before Erica Davis was hit by a pitch, bringing home Eytel. Michelle Phelps drove in Troy's other run in the inning, bringing home Wright on a sacrifice fly.

Troy picked up three more in the fourth. Heather Johnston led off with a single and was pinch-run for by Jordan Gray. Gray would advance to second on an error, and reached third after a pair of walks to Eytel and Hartley. Gray would then score on a passed ball.

Eytel picked up Troy's next run in the inning, coming home on a sacrifice fly by Meg Willis. Hartley would then steal home to give Troy a 5-0 lead.

The Trojans wrapped up their scoring in the fifth, with Mackenzie Kayler hitting her first career home run, a two-run blast, to center field.

Affeldt was tremendous in Troy's 7-0 win over Tennessee State to start the day, pitching a 7-inning no-hitter. She faced just 23 batters on the day, striking out eight.

Georgia Southern picked up its first run in the fifth on an RBI single by Savanah Coon. The Eagles would add one more in the sixth.

Sarah Purvis was dominant in the circle for the Eagles, throwing a no-hitter of her own in the second game of the day.http://troytrojans.com
