Troy Softball Heads to Eagle Classic

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Troy University softball team heads to future Sun Belt foe Georgia Southern this weekend for the 2014 Eagle Classic. The Trojans will take on the Eagles, as well as Middle Tennessee and Tennessee State.

Live stats will be available for all games, while live video will be available for Troy's games against Georgia Southern.

The Trojans (5-8-2) open up play against former Sun Belt rival Middle Tennessee (5-12) at 12:30 on Friday afternoon. They will then face host Georgia Southern (9-4) immediately after. Troy will take on Tennessee State (4-11) to start Saturday at 10:30 a.m., before taking on Georgia Southern again at 2:30 p.m. The Trojans wrap up competition against Middle Tennessee at 9 a.m.

Troy went 1-3-1 at the Lipton Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, last weekend. The Trojans dropped a pair of close contests on the first day, to Georgia Southern and Florida, before rebounding for a 4-1 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Troy then tied Indiana on Sunday morning, earning its second tie of the season.

Michelle Phelps hit .375 on the weekend, including one home run and five RBIs. Sara Mock led the Trojans in the circle with a 1.66 ERA in four appearances.

Phelps is currently in second in the Sun Belt Conference in RBIs with 17, while Erica Davis is leading the league with seven doubles. Mock is in third in the league with a 1.28 ERA. As a team, the Trojans are second in the league with a 2.19 ERA.

Troy is 31-19 all-time against Middle Tennessee and 15-0 against Tennessee State. The Troajns are 12-7 against Georgia Southern, including a close 4-3 loss last weekend.
