Trojans Begin Competition at Sun Belt Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Trojans got competition started at the Sun Belt Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Monday. Several Trojans set personal bests on the day. Competition concludes on Tuesday.
"At the end of the day we had strong performances even though points did not show up on the board," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "We will continue to focus on what lies ahead of us in day two."
"Just like in any other sporting event, the scoreboard is what matters," said distance coach Jeff Jenkins. "It feels good to get through day one and put some points on the scoreboard in a distance event. It's been quite a while and it only shows what is to come."
Dallas Worthy advanced to the finals of the 400-meters, winning her heat and finishing fifth overall with a season-best time of 57.20 seconds. She will compete again on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Taylor McDonald placed 17th in the event with a time of 59.84 seconds.
Troy's 4000-meter distance medley team of Samantha Smith, Tiffany Slater, Marsel Mosley and Julia Ostendorf placed eighth with a time of 12:29.05.
Ali Taylor placed 13th in the weight throw with a toss of 15.05 meters, setting a personal-best.
Aleeah Stigarll placed 14th in the high jump with a personal-best leap of 1.56 meters. The jump moved her into 10th in program history in the event. Stigarll would go on to take 20th in the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters.
Lacey Marcus earned 11th in the 60-meters hurdles with a time of 9.07 seconds. Adria Hill took 20th in the 60-meter dash at 8.00 seconds.
