Troy Baseball Takes on Florida A&M in First Road Game of Season

TROY, Ala. – After eight consecutive games at home to open the season, the Troy University baseball team will play its first game away from Riddle-Pace Field as it takes on Florida A&M in Tallahassee on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CT).

The Trojans (5-3) are coming off a series split with Central Michigan in which all four games were decided by six combined runs. After dropping the first two games, Troy rebounded to take the final two.

David Hall leads Troy with a .417 average while Garrett Pitts is coming through when it matters with a team-high nine RBIs. Kyle Brown has also batted well in clutch situations for the Trojans; with runners in scoring position he's batting .429 (3-for-7) and .385 (5-for-13) with runners on base.

Troy leads the Sun Belt Conference with 10 home runs and has hit a home run in six of eight games this season. The team is also tops in the league with 17 stolen bases headed by Clay Holcomb, who is a perfect 5-for-5 on the season.

Freshman Jesse Nelson (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to get the start on the mound. In his Troy debut on Feb. 15 against Northern Kentucky, Nelson pitched one perfect inning of relief striking out one.

Florida A&M (3-4) is coming off a rain-shortened, two-game series with Jackson State; the teams split a doubleheader on Saturday. Bennie Robinson (.345) and Ryan Kennedy (.333) lead the offensive charge for the Rattlers; both have a pair of home runs each.
