Rain & Darkness Halt Troy on Opening Day of John Hayt Invitational

PONTE VERDA, Fla. – Darkness halted play midway through the first round of the John Hayt Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla., on Sunday. Troy is currently tied for 11th place, but the Trojans are just six strokes out of fifth place.
Play was delayed nearly three hours due to rain midway through the round. Coastal Carolina and Oklahoma State are tied at the top of the leaderboard at 5-under, while North Florida is 1-over and Central Florida is 2-over.
The 15-team field features three of the top-15 teams in the country, seven teams ranked in the top 60 and 13 teams ranked among the top 100 in the latest Golf Stat rankings. Included in that group is No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Central Florida, No. 13 UAB, No. 27 Liberty, No. 47 Tennessee, No. 51 North Florida and No. 54 Louisville.
Jake Tucker, Jared Bettcher and Clayton Vannoy are all sitting at 2-over-par, while Phillip Brennan was 3-over and Tolver Dozier was 4-over when the teams were pulled off the course.
Teams will resume play at 7:20 a.m. (CST) and the second round is expected to being at approximately 8:15 a.m.
