Trojans Pick Up Split at Lipton Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Troy softball picked up a split on day two of the Lipton Invitational, taking down Coastal Carolina 4-1 and falling to the host, No. Florida, 12-2. The Trojans close out competition at the Invitational on Sunday morning at 8:30 against Indiana.
Troy 4, Coastal Carolina 1
The Trojans picked up four runs in the top half of the second inning to get things started. Amanda Winters drew a walk in her first plate appearance of the game and advanced to third on a double by Taylor Smartt. Both would come in to score on a single to left field by Becca Hartley.
Next up, Ebony Wright roped a single to right field and Kacie McAllister reached on a fielder's choice. Hartley was then put out at home on a fielder's choice, with Erica Davis reaching first. Michelle Phelps picked up an RBI single, driving in Wright, followed by an RBI single by Heather Johnston, scoring McAllister.
Wright was the star of the day for Troy, picking up three hits, stealing a base and scoring once.
Coastal Carolina picked up its only run on a two-out single, following a pair of walks in the sixth.
Sara Mock got the win for the Trojans after taking over in the fourth inning. She pitched 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three. Rachel Rigney started the game for the Trojans and allowed just three hits in three innings. Jaycee Affeldt picked up the save following 1.1 innings of work.
Kiana Quolas took the loss for Coastal Carolina after allowing four runs on seven hits in seven innings.
Troy 2, Florida 12
The Trojans ran into a tough Florida Gators squad that was looking to send a message in the second game.Â
Affeldt got the start, after working 1.1 innings in the game prior. Affeldt allowed six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings before giving way to Rigney.
The Gators got the on the board first with a pair of runs in the third. They would take control of the game in the fourth with five runs and add five more in the seventh.Â
Troy picked up its two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning on a two-run blast by Phelps, scoring Davis.Â
Lauren Haeger got the win for the Gators after allowing two hits in seven innings.
