Trojans Drop A Pair at Lipton Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Troy softball (4-7-1) played well in both games on at the Lipton Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, on Friday, but came up just short, falling to Georgia Southern 4-3 and No. 1 Florida 3-0.
Ebony Wright and Kacie McAllister both picked up three hits on the day, including two each in the first game against Georgia State.
Troy continues competition at the Lipton Invitational tomorrow, beginning at 8:30 a.m. against Coastal Carolina. Troy will then take on Florida immediately after.

The Trojans took an early lead against the Eagles but could not hold on, as Georgia State used a four-run fifth to take the win.
McAllister picked up a single to get the first inning rolling, followed by a walk to Chandler Griffin. Michelle Phelps came up next and picked up the two-out RBI single, plating McAllister, to give Troy the 1-0 lead. Troy added another run in the third. Griffin led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. She would later score on a fielder's choice.
Phelps scored Troy's third run, in the bottom half of the fifth. She reached on an error to start off the inning, advancing to third. Amanda Winters drove Phelps in next, picking up an RBI.
Georgia Southern did its damage in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on a grand slam.
Jaycee Affeldt took the loss for Troy after striking out four and giving up just five hits in 5.1 innings of work. Sara Mock came in in relief, working 1.2 innings.
Brooke Red got the win for Georgia Southern. Red struck out six and gave up six hits in seven innings.
Troy 0, #1 Florida 3
The Trojans played well against the number one team in the nation but couldn't get any across the plate.
Florida got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The gators added two on a double in the fourth to take the 3-0 win.
Mock took the loss for the Trojans. She allowed six hits and struck out five in five innings.
Hannah Rogers picked up the win for the Gators after allowing four hits in seven shutout innings.
